This policy describes what this website, operated as Chapter One, collects, why, and how long it is kept.

What this site does not collect

The intake form deliberately does not ask for, and this site will not accept through it:

  • Social Security numbers or taxpayer identification numbers;
  • bank account or card numbers;
  • IRS online account credentials, or credentials of any kind;
  • tax returns, transcripts, or other documents.

The form additionally inspects the free-text description for patterns resembling a Social Security number or a bank account number and rejects the submission with an explanation rather than storing it. Sensitive case information is collected later, if at all, through an appropriate secure professional process — not through a web form.

What is collected when you submit a request

  • Your name, email address and phone number, and which you prefer to be contacted by.
  • A range for the approximate amount owed, whether the matter is individual or business, the tax years involved if you know them, whether required returns are filed, the most recent IRS notice if known, and whether a levy or garnishment is in place. Ranges are used rather than exact figures wherever an exact figure is not necessary.
  • A short free-text description, if you provide one.
  • Your consent to be contacted, the exact wording you agreed to, and the time.

What is collected automatically

  • How you arrived. The page you landed on, the referring site if your browser sent one, and any campaign parameters in the link. This is stored in your browser and attached to a request if you submit one, so we can tell which material is actually useful to people.
  • Interaction events. Which calls to action are clicked and whether an intake form was started, keyed to a session identifier that is discarded when you close the browser.
  • Request logs. The path requested, a coarse classification of the user agent, and the response status. These are used to distinguish automated crawlers from people, which is the point of the measurement.
  • An abuse-triage hash. A salted, irreversible hash of the IP address submitting a form, kept so that abusive submissions can be identified. No raw IP address is stored.

There are no advertising pixels, no third-party analytics, no cross-site trackers and no data brokers involved. Nothing collected here is sold or shared for advertising.

Cookies and browser storage

This site sets no cookies. Attribution information is held in your browser's local and session storage on this site's own origin, and is readable only by this site. Blocking it, clearing it, or disabling JavaScript entirely does not affect your ability to read any page or to submit the intake form — the site is built so that nothing depends on it.

How information is used

  • To review your request and contact you about your tax situation.
  • To provide your request to an independent tax professional so that they can respond to it.
  • To understand which pages and sources produce useful inquiries.
  • To prevent abuse of the form.

Your information is not used to send marketing. Consistent with the consent you give on the form, contact is made personally by a person at an independent tax practice — this site does not operate automated text messaging, prerecorded or autodialled calling, or drip campaigns.

Who your information may be provided to

You asked to be contacted about a tax problem, and that is why this information is collected. To answer that request, the information you submit may be provided to an independent tax professional — a separate practice that is not part of this site and whose people are not employed by it.

The categories of recipient are:

  • An independent tax practice, so that someone there can contact you and discuss your situation.
  • Service providers that operate the site itself — hosting, and the automated check that distinguishes people from bots. They process information on instruction and do not receive it for their own purposes.

Your information is not sold, and it is not shared for advertising, with data brokers, or with multiple unrelated firms. It is not passed to anyone who has not been asked to respond to your request.

Retention

We retain personal information for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this policy, including responding to inquiries, operating and evaluating the service, maintaining records of requests and consent, preventing fraud or abuse, protecting the service, resolving disputes, and complying with applicable law.

We may retain limited technical information as reasonably necessary to protect the service, prevent fraud or abuse, investigate security issues, and comply with applicable law. Interaction and request records are kept as individual entries and contain no name, email address, phone number or IP address; interaction records also include a site-generated session identifier.

This describes the records Chapter One holds. If your information is provided to an independent tax professional, whatever that professional then keeps is held under their own record-keeping obligations and is not governed by this policy.

Your choices

  • You can ask to stop being contacted at any time, and the request will be honored.
  • You can ask what has been recorded about you, and ask for it to be deleted — see Your privacy rights for how that works.
  • You can use this site without submitting anything; nothing here is gated.

To make any of these requests, contact contact@chapteronetax.com .

Your privacy rights

Depending on where you live and applicable law, you may have rights concerning your personal information, which may include rights to access, correct, obtain a copy of, or request deletion of certain information. To submit a privacy request, contact contact@chapteronetax.com.

Rights of this kind depend on the law that applies to you and they have exceptions. Some information may be kept where applicable law permits or requires it, so a request does not necessarily result in the deletion of every record.

Children

This site is intended for adults dealing with their own or their business's tax matters and is not directed at children.

Security

Submissions are transmitted over an encrypted connection and stored on access-controlled systems. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, which is a further reason this site's public forms do not accept Social Security numbers, financial account numbers, credentials or documents.

Consent wording

The exact consent language in force is version 2026-09-25. The wording you agreed to is stored with your request, so that it is always possible to establish precisely what you consented to rather than what the form says today.

Changes

Material changes will be reflected here with an updated review date at the top of this page.
